FLUTE & SAXOPHONE LESSONS
Our Flute and Saxophone instructors teach woodwind basics as well as how to play in solo and ensemble situations. Music theory is also incorporated into the lessons. Our teachers are certified music educators and perform professionally themselves, so you can ask them anything you need to know and they will know the answers.
Want to learn marching band music? They can help. Jazz or classical band music? No problem! Lessons will end with something fun to take home and show your family.
What We Believe
We believe that the best way to learn music is with one-on-one, private instruction supplemented by group classes. Each lesson is tailored individually, for the way the student learns best. Group class experiences reinforce what is learned in private lessons. We take into account age, experience, personality, and learning style. We teach ages 1 - adult! It's never "too late" to learn how to play a musical instrument.
One-on-one attention
Students in private lessons are able to learn the type of music they personally are most interested in. Our teachers can focus 100% of their attention on that one student to ensure that hand positioning, posture or the understanding of a particular concept are correct. If a student has a particular difficulty in one area, the teacher can work on it without hampering the progress of a class of students and alternatively, if a student is excelling in one area, the teacher can move on. We offer 30 minute, 45 minute, and 1 hour lessons.
Our school is equipped to offer music lessons for students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to very advanced students. We offer every style of lessons from classical to jazz and pop.
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT WILL I LEARN IN FLUTE & SAXOPHONE LESSONS?
Our teachers understand that every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals. We make it a priority to tailor how we teach and what we teach to your individual needs.
If you enroll here for flute or saxophone lessons, your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child. Together, you will develop a plan to achieve your goals! We love beginners, so even if you don't know where to begin, we can help!
WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC CAN I LEARN?
We teach all styles from folk to classical. We combine the important fundamentals with the music YOU want to play. With at least 2 teachers on each instrument you are sure to find the best match for YOU.
ARE YOUR FLUTE & SAXOPHONE INSTRUCTORS QUALIFIED?
Our instructors are highly qualified, all have teaching experience, and most importantly, they have a passion for teaching. Being a musician doesn't automatically make you a teacher--that's why we search for those who are best qualified for mentoring our music students!
We search the entire area for the top teachers, who embody the high values at Steamboat Academy of Music. Most importantly, our instructors strive to relate their teaching to each individual student's learning style. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the USA and Europe and have years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching abilities, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and strive to get to know each student and their parent or caregiver on a personal level. We search high and low for the BEST teachers, so you don't have to!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TO PLAY FLUTE AND SAXOPHONE?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn to play. With regular practice a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
WILL I NEED TO PURCHASE AN INSTRUMENT TO TAKE LESSONS AT THE ACADEMY?
We can help you get rentals for as low as $35/month and all contracts are rent to own. We can also help you purchase an instrument for a reasonable price. If you already have a flute or sax at home, bring it and we will gladly evaluate it for you.
I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND OR ABILITY. CAN I STILL HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?
Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents will occasionally sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands. We also send lesson notes weekly and sometimes create videos to help in the most effective way possible.
